The Harmonized System (HS) is an international nomenclature for classifying traded goods. HS codes are 6-digit numbers developed by the World Customs Organization (WCO) and used by over 200 countries. The first 2 digits indicate the chapter, next 2 the heading, and last 2 the subheading. Countries add additional digits for more specificity (8-10 digits). Correct HS classification determines duty rates, trade statistics, and regulatory requirements.
